Illusion of space

Most lofts don’t offer you much space. And if your loft is both your work and living area, the need for sense of mobility can sometimes crop out. Then of course there are times when you just want be able to breathe and loosen up but you just feel the small space closing in to you, making you feel suffocated.

Though there is nothing much you can do anymore to widen or broaden your space unless you tear down the main walls, there is still hope. First you can rearrange the furniture by moving most of the bulky ones to the sidewalls to create more room for movement in the middle. Second, you can use mirrors to provide an illusion of space throughout the entire room. This does not mean installing mirrors to all the four walls. What you need is just to install a huge mirror that extends from side to side to bring about an effect of continuity and depth. Third, you should choose paint colors that are easy on the eyes, preferably lighter colors to brighten the entire space. And fourth, you should avoid thick, heavy curtains with enormous designs. These drapes make the room look smaller and too stuffed up.
