With large floor areas associated with some lofts, it is quite difficult to get proper floor covers that would make it unique and interesting even for you, who is to live within the said space that can get tiring if you see the same floor tiles all over the place. so why not divide up the space into zones, setting tiles and other durable floor covering for heavy used areas while leaving carpets and wooden floor panels for living areas such as bedrooms. You can even create your own design with the various materials to make them stand out, while attaining the lines of division but do consider cleaning, which is something you’d be sure to go through when selecting the proper floor covering.

Walls are an integral part of lofts and that being the case they can be quite massive and bland left to its own accord. A splash of paint may give it some life or why not consider some art for sophistication. Prints or copies of the original artwork also works fine as long as they are framed to protect them from fading and other issues. have a wall collage composed of memorable pictures, blown up to proportion or simply wing-it, mixing different size photos to make a unique yet interesting wall covering you can talk about with your guests. Space is also quite abundant in former industrial lofts so be creative in designing dividers to cut up the utterly large space. Stand-up dividers or glass ones work fine, they’re also easier to move when time comes to flee the loft.

Mother Nature can only take so much and if we had paid attention more to the people called environmentalists of the sixty’s or seventy’s or even nuts, we may not be suffering from the many extreme environmental changes we are now seeing and feeling all over the globe. But, as always, each and every person on earth doing something small can amount to a lot of help for the environment that seems to be on the verge of it’s limits. Simple upgrades from incandescent to CFL’s or even LED lighting helps reduce carbon emissions a lot if all the world’s homes and lofts simply took the time and spent more cash for the simple yet effective retrofit. As discussed with the previous two posts, going off the grid or a more realistic partial Continue reading this post…

Wind turbine technology has also improved considerably that a small roof-mounted wind turbine can also provide enough power to such small living spaces. The problem with most of them is the hardware and storage batteries which can amount to a lot, space of which is a premium. If ever there is a downstairs garage or ample storage space then space is of no concern. Some of the smaller wind generators can provide 400 to 600 amps of power easy, enough for a small loft. Most of the smaller types can simply be mounted directly onto the roof of your loft, without the need for towers and other supports. They are simple and easy to install and the cost will surely be offset in terms of savings from power you may otherwise have to pay for from the grid. Continue reading this post…

Being small by nature and with all the open spaces, lofts are ideal for conversion to solar or wind power making them mean green living areas. Much of the openness of the modern loft and the split-level design is also good for wide open windows, with proper privacy screens that is for vanity’s sake. They also allow you to save big on cooling and heating, bouncing the harmful rays of the sun back to the exterior of the home and the cool/warm air inside the home. A properly installed and prepped window in the ceiling lets more light in, even on overcast days making life a bit easier. Solar panels can be Continue reading this post…

If you like to entertain and have a lot of friends, one of the ways you all to bond and have a good time together is to host small, intimate parties. Since the space is smaller, it allows for better interaction between all the people in attendance, and the relatively small number makes it a party you can easily manage. Before the party, make sure that all the precarious decorative pieces are kept somewhere relatively safe, as more people simply means a greater chance for accidents to happen. You may also opt to have a small buffet table set up with food so people can just get what they want – no need for servers, as the party is relatively small; you can maybe have a person in charge of drinks and the other for food, so it doesn’t get too cramped.

People who live in lofts are often faced with one big problem, windows. Though they are good for savings with lighting, but too much can make a loft too bright, straining your eyes and even causing some medical conditions. One can easily tame windows with commercial glass tinting products that are applied as a thin film of plastic with special coatings that allows enough light to get through, minus the damaging UV rays from the sun. Have the parts of your loft that need privacy installed with opaque tints that will keep your privates private. Heavy sunlight also has a knack of fading brightly colored things such as your favorite sofa and painting as if they were bleached laundry. Keep bright items in the shade or have some coverings you put onto them when not in use, Curtains are good but will require hefty bills when time comes to wash them for large windows require large curtains.

Typical of lofts, windows that span from top to bottom giving you unimpeded view of the outside and the outside inside… you get the picture. This is good for lighting for it lets in a lot of natural light but kind of a nuisance in terms of privacy. Curtains would surely be out of the question due to the huge size of the windows so choose privacy films instead. They are usually applied by professional installers that renders the glass opaque, letting in light while blurring everything out enough to get enough privacy.
You can use curtains or even rolls of fabric that you can creatively drape over some parts of the window to make it more artistic. Think of adding a few plants to help with a bit of climate control like potted ferns and miniature trees
